Safety Attendant

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous, close observation of assigned patients and ensure they are never left unattended.
• Maintain a safe, obstacle-free environment to help minimize the risk of falls, accidental injury, or intentional self-harm.
• Intervene as needed to help prevent falls or the dislodgement of medical tubes, IVs, or other equipment.
• Assist patients with daily care and basic comfort needs.
• Provide emotional support while maintaining a professional and neutral presence with patients and families.
• Promptly report changes in patient behavior, activity, or unusual incidents to the nursing team.
• Assist with a variety of patient care activities, including:
  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Performing blood glucose checks
  • Assisting with feeding
  • Bed baths or showers
  • Peri-care
  • Applying or assisting with Sequential Compression Devices (SCDs)
• Answer patient call bells and assist with answering phones at the nursing station.
• Remain alert, attentive, and engaged throughout the entire shift.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Previous hospital experience, preferred.
• De-Escalation Techniques (within 90 days of employment), required.
• Life Support Responder (within 90 days of employment), required.
• Management of Aggressive Behaviors (MOAB) Training (within 90 days after completion of De-Escalation Training), required.

Skills

• Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing as applicable.
• Knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics.
• Ability to work with all age group patients or act as a companion.
• Basic computer skills for documentation.

Schedule

12-hour shifts, dayshift or nightshift available.
