About the role

The Safety Associate, under the supervision of the Facilities Service Manager, helps provide a safe and secure environment for members, guests, and staff of the Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center of Chicago. Responsibilities include enforcing policies and procedures, acting as a first responder to emergencies, and performing duties as assigned by the Facilities Service Manager. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, physically fit, and able to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all Salvation Army/Ray & Joan Kroc Center policies and procedures.
  • Remain alert and vigilant at all times.
  • Follow safety guidelines to ensure the safety of all staff and guests.
  • Interact with staff, members, and guests in a positive, professional manner.
  • Greet all guests and patrons as they enter the building.
  • Report any safety concerns to the Facilities Service Manager.
  • Monitor, secure, and restrict building ingress and egress as needed.
  • Perform safety checks, participate in drills, and respond to emergencies.
  • Perform wanding or operate metal detectors as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of safety and security, customer service.
  • Familiarity with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Physical stamina and strength; ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Attention to detail and ability to remain attentive and vigilant.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members.
  • Adaptability to changing work requirements and environments.
  • Excellent customer service skills when interacting with guests and members.
  • Willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and walking for long periods, often on concrete and uneven surfaces.
  • Occasional climbing of ladders.
  • Endurance for working long hours, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment with precision.

Pay

$17.00–$20.40 per hour.
