Safety and Security Officer

About the role

The Safety & Security Officer at Princeton Day School is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment across the entire campus. This position reports to the Director of Safety and Security.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus routes to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
• Build positive relationships with all constituents, fostering trust and open communication.
• Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
• Prepare daily activity reports and handle emergencies involving fire or unauthorized persons.
• Monitor and authorize entry and exit of employees, visitors, and other authorized persons.
• Warn of policy infractions and apprehend violators.
• Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to maintain a visible presence and preserve order.
• Inspect and adjust fire alarm, sprinkler, and door access systems.
• Respond to malfunctions in building systems and call for repairs.
• Identify and report safety hazards and develop/implement safety training programs.
• Purchase and distribute safety equipment and implement injury prevention programs.
• Manage and execute the ID/access card process for all adult members of the community.
• Assist with lockouts, dead vehicle batteries, and lost persons.
• Review CCTV recordings as prompted.
• Handle outdoor signage, radios, and flags.
• Perform life safety inspections and detect safety hazards.
• Develop/implement safety training programs and OSHA compliance.
• Perform other duties as requested/assigned.

Emergency Closures

• Report for work during emergency closures as directed by the Director.
• Be available for additional hours if needed for weekend or holiday closures.
• Missed shifts may be considered vacation time.
• Notify the Director of arrival and departure times for delayed openings and early dismissals.

Physical Demands

• Lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds on occasion.
• Walk, run, climb stairs, and complete patrol circuits in a timely and efficient manner.

Required Certifications/Licenses

• Valid Driver's License
• CPR Certification
• Black Seal Boiler License
• NJ SORA License

Compensation and Benefits

The Safety & Security Officer is compensated at a range of $23.00 to $28.00 per hour and is eligible for Princeton Day School's full benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a generous 403(b) match, paid time off, and other valuable benefits.
