Responsibilities
- Ensure the security of Duke Farms buildings, vehicles, assets and, where appropriate, the property of employees, visitors and residents.
- Perform dispatch duties, including monitoring alarm systems and CCTV cameras and appropriately responding to emergencies according to established protocols.
- Conduct routine property and building patrols, assist visitors and staff, respond to emergencies, and administer basic first aid as outlined in the Safety and Security SOP manual.
- Identify, report, and escalate safety concerns in collaboration with the larger Safety and Security team.
- Execute basic firefighting and fire safety duties (e.g., use of fire extinguishers) when safe and appropriate.
- Complete daily reporting requirements, including the completion of daily shift logs, dispatch logs, and incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- De-escalate and diffuse conflicts with a professional and calm demeanor, ensuring a positive and respectful experience for the Duke Farms community.
- Internal and External Collaboration:
- Support a positive visitor experience by providing support and education to visitors as needed.
- Collaborate across the Programs and Partnerships and Conservation& Science teams as needed, ensuring programming and convenings are executed safely.
- Perform other work, including special projects, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Work experience in public safety and security.
- Demonstrated commitment to public safety and environmental stewardship, with interest in contributing to a mission-driven, sustainability-focused organization.
- Willingness to learn and participate in training, specifically in administering basic first aid. First Aid training will be provided.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through and adherence to protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Comfortable engaging with the public, addressing concerns and defusing conflicts effectively.
- Ability to remain calm, clear-headed, and controlled during emergencies.
- Capable of patrolling the property, sitting at a desk for prolonged periods, monitoring surveillance equipment, standing for prolonged periods, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to navigate the 2,700-plus-acre Duke Farms property and travel to other locations, both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds to a height of 12 inches.
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, sun exposure and wet weather with potential exposure to environmental factors such as poison ivy, ticks, and mosquitoes.
- Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license required.
