About the role
The New York Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Safety and Security Officer. This role involves various duties including patrol, inspections, and responding to emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Maintain NYS Codes Certification or obtain within probationary period
- Manage travel status and travel card requirements
- Manage Leave & Accrual Tracking System (LATS)
- Manage Statewide Financial System (SFS)
- Assist in ordering, dispersing, and tracking uniforms and equipment
- Assist in scheduling and documenting training sessions
- Conduct security patrols, including on foot and by vehicle
- Inspect buildings for security and compliance
- Communicate using radio, PA, or phone
- Manage and respond to suspicious persons and emergencies
- Enforce state, municipal, and institutional laws and regulations
- Operate security cameras, computers, and related equipment
- Answer visitor inquiries and provide directions
- Occasionally arrest suspects and provide first aid
- Conduct quarterly reviews of agency properties
- Travel within the region and to other regions as required
- Involvement in emergency management planning
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least 18 years old
- New York State citizen
- Pass medical examination and background investigation
- Valid New York State driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and observe conditions
Qualifications
- OPEN COMPETITIVE: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Safety & Security Officer 1: High School Diploma or equivalent plus one year of relevant experience
Skills
- Knowledge of NYS Codes and ability to maintain certification
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina for patrols and inspections
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and systems

Pay
$46,921 - $67,564 annually*
Schedule
