Responsibilities

• Conduct facility safety and health record keeping and housekeeping assessments at predetermined intervals; summarize and report results to the Plant Manager and Safety & Health Manager; follow up on corrective actions as needed.
• Administer the Company’s Safety and Health Program at the facility in a timely and proactive manner, including other related programs designed for the facility.
• Observe employee work practices to ensure compliance with company rules and regulations; take appropriate action to address deficiencies.
• Attend facility meetings as required and participate in job planning to implement safety factors.
• Motivate, by example, all employees to strive for an accident-free work environment; provide support to all departments to enable safe job performance.
• Assist in collecting and analyzing inspection data to develop strategies and solutions for addressing recurring deficiencies, focusing compliance and injury prevention efforts.
• Conduct accident investigations in conjunction with department managers or supervisors to identify root causes; recommend corrective actions to reduce exposure potential.
• Attend seminars or training functions to further education and stay current with industry regulations.
• Review newly enacted and proposed regulations presented by the Corporate Safety and Health Director; summarize potential impacts on the facility and propose compliance programs.
• Participate in regulatory inspections (MSHA) and review citations; develop arguments for contesting citations.
• Provide full coverage and oversight to ensure all safety responsibilities are addressed when the Plant Safety Manager is unavailable.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Bachelor’s Degree in a Safety and Health related field (preferred).
• 0–2 years of experience in a mining environment or equivalent (preferred).
• Knowledge of safety and health codes and regulations, particularly MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build consensus, particularly in analyzing and solving problems related to employee safety and health.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
• Ability to train individuals or groups in all areas of safety and health.
• Ability to identify potential hazards and safety violations and proactively address them to prevent injury or citations.
• Strong skills in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
• Excellent time management, decision-making, presentation, and organizational skills.
