About the Role

Under the direction of a site administrator, the Safe School and Violence Prevention Officer will work with students to communicate effectively and resolve conflict, as well as act as a sounding board for student concerns. Officers will also help maintain order and security and prevent illegal acts on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in conflict resolution training.
  • Teach pupils alternative approaches to violence.
  • Control crowds at special events and prevent fights, property damage, and other misconduct.
  • Identify troubled youth and work with counselors to assist pupils.
  • Monitor school buildings, yards, parking areas, and adjacent areas.
  • Monitor Saturday school.
  • Assist with school detention and in-school suspension.
  • Assist with campus activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Learn and teach conflict resolution skills.
  • Understand basic interests and attitudes of adolescents.
  • Utilize skills to maintain positive relationships with students and adults.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Facilitate communications between students, enhance understanding, and promote a secure environment.
  • Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations.
  • Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.
  • Enrolled in college or enrolled in or completed a law enforcement program is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working with youth in an organized setting.

Pay

Pay Range: $1,571.77 - $2,362.34 Monthly

Schedule

  • Temporary position for the 2026/2027 school year.
  • Monday through Friday, 19.75 hours per week.
  • 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (hours may vary).
  • Funding for this position does not allow for overtime and/or benefits.
