About the Role
Princeton YMCA is seeking Counselors for Before and After School programs in Montgomery Township. This fully on-site position involves working at after-school programs located in Montgomery Township schools. Counselors assist in supervising children under the direction of the School Age Child Care Director, Senior Director of Youth Development, and Site Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing a varied program of activities for children, including Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
- Assist the Site Supervisor with supervision of all children on-site.
- Build relationships with children and families by greeting them positively each day.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the GSC YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Motivate and encourage children to participate in program activities.
- Provide a safe environment and follow all required safety procedures in emergencies.
- Assist in maintaining an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space:
- Clean and disinfect equipment as per state requirements (daily or weekly).
- Maintain site/room, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe manner.
- Set up the site/room before children arrive and clean up after their departure.
- Communicate situations requiring attention to the Site Supervisor, particularly regarding children’s behavior.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Experience with children in school, after-school, or camp settings.
- Sound judgment, ability to prioritize, and work independently.
- Ability to work flexibly within a collaborative team of staff and volunteers.
- Willingness to work with all individuals regardless of race, religion, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, or disability.
- Positive, “can-do” attitude with a willingness to help wherever needed.
- Commitment to the goals and objectives of Princeton Family YMCA programs.
- Willingness to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards and best practices.
Schedule
Available working hours are 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM or 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (After School). Specific hours may vary by program site. For staff working five days a week, hours range from 15–30 hours per week. The position runs from September 2026 to June 2027.
