About the Organization
The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio, having made possible over 55 million meals in 2017 to hungry people in Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland, and Richland counties. The Food Bank’s mission is to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day through food distribution and SNAP outreach efforts.
About the Role
The Healthy Choice Market is a choice pantry allowing clients to select their own food instead of receiving a pre-packed or standard bag of groceries. This method gives clients a sense of dignity and control, limits waste, and allows them to tailor the help they receive to their unique situation. Volunteers encourage nudges or environmental cues to help clients select the healthiest food options available.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with shopping and item selection in the pantry.
- Assist clients with loading their vehicles with food, as needed.
- Accept retail product donations, weigh product, and record the donation.
- Organize and consolidate product onto pallets and into bins to make product look presentable for clients.
- Consolidate spoiled or damaged items for removal from the pantry.
- Remove excess cardboard, bins, and boxes.
- Sweep and mop as needed.
- Assist clients as needed.
Requirements
- Volunteers must be 14 or older.
- Physically able to lift cases and bags of food weighing up to 50 lbs.
