About the Role

The Running Start Advisor is responsible for assisting students in becoming Running Start students by developing meaningful career goals through academic planning assistance, coordinating high school outreach functions, and marketing and promoting college programs related to the Running Start Program. This position will serve as the liaison between area high schools and the College.

The successful candidate must be organized, flexible, a self-starter, and be willing to work as a team member within a collaborative, student-first environment. This role requires the ability to manage high-volume enrollment processing while maintaining accuracy and delivering individualized or group advising support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in the educational planning process of understanding the college culture, expectations, degree requirements, and quarterly schedule development
  • Make timely and informed decisions for Running Start students using independent judgment and critical thinking within the program, and state guidelines
  • Maintain working knowledge of college admissions requirements, financial aid policies, and academic and professional/technical requirements
  • Advise students of degree requirements for professional/technical and transfer programs
  • Evaluate and determine the transfer of credit and research course descriptions to determine transferability in an unofficial capacity
  • Understand requirements and successfully advise for multiple degree and certificate programs
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners, including local high school districts
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with students that support student needs, high school degree completion, and progress towards college degree completion
  • Communicate proactively with students, families, high school partners, and campus partners to provide timely, accurate information to reduce potential barriers to students, enrollment, and academic success
  • Provide high school outreach efforts that may include high school visits and presentations, student/parent information nights, and Running Start informational/Orientation nights in both small and large group settings
  • Serve as a liaison between area high schools and the College for the Running Start Program
  • Monitor the academic progress and performance of a caseload of Running Start students
  • Ensure timely follow-up, resolution and documentation of early alerts, students concerns and enrollment
  • Proactively connect with students throughout the quarter
  • Provide, develop and implement appropriate intervention strategies for students under Academic Concern or Notice throughout the quarter
  • Conduct individual and group new student advising appointments
  • Process all enrollments and scheduling changes (add/drops) for Running Start students
  • Leverage LCC’s current advising technology tools and practices to consistently and accurately maintain timely documentation of all student interactions, notes, case outcomes, educational planning, and appointment summaries
  • Assist in maintaining Google Sheet tracking and other Google Workspace (G-Suite) for reporting needs
  • Develop, maintain, and update informational brochures, handouts, and social media content for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Manage responsibilities in a flexible and fast-paced work environment which includes evenings, especially during peak enrollment periods
  • Actively participate in learning from professional development education and professional activities and conferences to build knowledge and learn new resources
  • May participate in special projects, committees, and workgroups on campus
  • Access, review and maintain student records while understanding and applying the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents and students
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience working with student populations, strong technology background with ability to work with complex systems in a fast-paced environment, self-starter with high degree of motivation, energy, flexibility and willingness to innovate, strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, sound organizational and problem-solving abilities, and a service-oriented approach and positive can-do attitude with a student-first mentality.

Preferred qualifications include experience in higher education, a Master's degree in student development or similar area of study, bilingual or fluency in other languages, and experience working in dual credit programs (CiHS, CTE, AP), TRiO, or secondary-to-postsecondary transition programs.

Benefits

This position is exempt under the FLSA and eligible for overtime. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some flexibility for evening hours during peak registration times. The position is primarily on campus, but there may be some opportunity for remote work depending on department need.

Pay

Offers are made based on the applicant’s qualifications relative to the job, internal pay equity, and any other relevant factors. The college typically hires in the lower to middle range of the salary range.

Schedule

The Running Start Education Planner is 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with some flexibility for evening hours during peak registration times.
