About the Role

The Behavior Interventionist serves as a professional development trainer and coach for campus professionals to implement a common district-wide language and structure associated with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Trauma-Informed Care, and Restorative Practices. This role recognizes and addresses school-wide and individual social, emotional, and behavioral concerns that hinder academic growth, providing consultation to support campuses on multi-tiered systems of supports for student social and emotional needs and mental health awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Prevention:
    • Develops, coordinates, and facilitates training and professional development for school personnel in Trauma-Informed Care and restorative practices.
    • Delivers district-wide training on the framework for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
    • Presents staff development training to enable school personnel to identify and work effectively with students with emotional, social, and behavioral differences.
    • Supports schools in developing and implementing performance plans addressing gaps in student performance.
    • Reduces the use of interventions that remove students from the active learning environment.
    • Conducts professional development on emotional/behavioral markers, classroom modifications, and structured intervention strategies.
    • Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining social and emotional curriculum.
  • Intervention:
    • Consults with teachers, counselors, social workers, and other staff regarding educational needs, assessment data, and behavior intervention plans for disruptive students.
    • Provides input and support on multi-tiered systems of supports to address student needs.
    • Offers suggestions for behavioral management and structured intervention strategies for teachers and parents.
    • Provides functional behavioral assessment (FBA) training to improve data-gathering methods for Behavior Support Plans (BSP).
    • Assists teachers in developing class-wide reinforcement systems for a healthy classroom environment.
    • Helps school teams develop alternative intervention strategies for students with behavior issues.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Develops online training materials and resources for PBIS, Social-Emotional Learning, Trauma-Informed Care, and Restorative Practices.
    • Collaborates with other departments to integrate PBIS with district initiatives.
    • Collects and monitors school and district data related to behavior and discipline.
    • Uses data to design professional development and behavior interventions.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Professional Growth:
    • Pursues professional development through state and local programs.
    • Joins professional associations (e.g., MSCA, ACA, AACD, APA, ABA).
    • Reads professional journals and attends relevant workshops and conferences.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree; Master’s and BCBA/ABA certification preferred.
  • 3 years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience dealing with behavioral issues in an educational setting or equivalent.
  • Mental health, counseling, or social work background preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of instructional strategies related to behavior interventions.
  • Experience supporting underserved populations preferred.
  • Creative and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate trainings and workshops.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work productively with diverse populations, teachers, parents, agencies, and community members.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and ability to travel throughout the district.
  • Successful completion of a background check by Human Resources.

Pay

RTI Behavior Interventionist on a District Teacher Salary Schedule.

Schedule

12-month position.

Please note: This is a grant-funded position. If the allocated funds are eliminated, the position will also be eliminated.
