About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for performing various respiratory care procedures and examinations for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. This role also involves assisting physicians during procedures, educating patients and staff, and participating in departmental improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine respiratory therapy procedures including IPPB, O2 therapy, and humidity/aerosol therapy.
  • Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care for assigned patients and provides ventilatory support to patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Performs advanced respiratory care techniques such as invasive pressure monitoring, pulmonary artery catheterization, and administration of Nitric Oxide.
  • Aids in the insertion of catheters and performs arterial blood gas collection.
  • Assesses and reassesses patients through observation, clinical data, and therapy response, reporting findings accurately and referring to appropriate disciplines as needed.
  • Provides educational support to patients, families, physicians, students, and other hospital staff regarding respiratory care procedures.
  • Maintains and performs preventative and routine maintenance on respiratory care equipment and instruments.
  • Participates in departmental and hospital continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Required: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care, or Technical Degree/Diploma in Respiratory Care.
  • Preferred: No prior work experience.
  • Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license from Tennessee, National, and Arkansas State Medical Boards.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Heart Association.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects.
