HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center is a 445+ bed acute care hospital located in the heart of central Houston, adjacent to the Medical Center and Museum District, providing quality care for the greater Houston area. Established in 1975, the hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including cardiology, bariatrics, orthopedics, neurology, emergency care, and more. We provide 24/7 emergency services and have two intensive care units: surgical intensive care unit (SICU) and medical intensive care unit (MICU). We are an accredited Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Center and an accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI.

About the role

The Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) performs all modes of respiratory therapy in patients of varying ages and medical conditions, in accordance with the standards of practice as defined by HCA Houston Medical Center. The Respiratory Care Practitioner works independently, utilizing a variety of sophisticated instruments and technology, and demonstrates good judgment and decision-making in patient treatment. The Lead RRT may oversee other staff and assist department management as directed, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement of processes and services.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate verbally via telephone and in face-to-face situations
  • Communicate in written form
  • Convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Inspect machinery, office equipment, and medical equipment
  • Troubleshoot medical equipment
  • Solve problems requiring interpretation
  • Utilize reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Make judgments to take action which could result in the death of a patient

Work Environment

  • Noise: sufficient to cause distraction or possible hearing loss
  • Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens
  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
  • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
  • Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, and wastes
  • Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards

Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date)
  • RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP) certification
  • Associate Degree
