About the Role

The Security Services Officer reports directly to the building principal and/or the Supervisor of Security, Safety Services. The officer monitors conduct of all persons in and around the designated facility to ensure safety and security.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maximum security for individuals within the buildings, grounds, and at school-sponsored events for USD 259.
  • Maintain knowledge of all routine security and emergency crisis procedures.
  • Understand and enforce BOE policies pertaining to USD 259 properties, personnel, and students.
  • Patrol parking areas, grounds, and buildings (on foot and by vehicle) and report safety violations to the building principal and/or designee.
  • Prepare accurate and timely security incident reports.
  • Respond to requests from the building principal and/or designee to address disruptive individuals.
  • Assist in routine and emergency situations involving USD 259 properties, personnel, and students.
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication and people skills when working with high-risk behavioral students.
  • Perform after-hours duties as requested by the building principal and/or designee.
  • Attend certified training, mandatory in-service training, and law enforcement training courses.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous law enforcement and/or security-related experience preferred.
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License.
  • Good ethical and professional behavior.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, and move quickly around buildings and grounds.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint (may be validated by testing).
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for interactions within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task, remain calm during stressful situations, and respond to volatile situations professionally.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of USD 259’s mission, purpose, goals, and the role of employees in achieving them.

Equipment

This position may require the use of SMART boards, iPads, and basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel

Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
