Route Sales Representative - Sacramento District Office

The California State Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento and one of the few state agencies that generates revenue without using taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities through contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes, and retailer compensation. In fiscal year 2022-23, the Lottery generated approximately $9.2 billion in sales, with over $2.2 billion earned for California public schools. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations statewide and include Scratchers games, draw games like Powerball and Mega Millions, and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.

About the role

Under the general direction of the Route Sales Supervisor, the Route Sales Representative serves as a liaison to Lottery retail accounts. Assigned a state van, this role conducts daily field visits to a predetermined portion of assigned Lottery retailers to maintain direct contact and handle all functions associated with the sale of Lottery products. The work location is listed in Sacramento County, with territories spanning Sacramento, Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties. The position is based at the Sacramento District Office and is not eligible for telework.

Responsibilities

• Act as a liaison between the California State Lottery and retail accounts within assigned territories.
• Conduct daily field visits to Lottery retailers using a state-issued van.
• Maintain direct contact with retailers to support the sale of Lottery products.
• Perform all functions related to the sale, distribution, and merchandising of Lottery products.
• Work independently in outdoor weather conditions and travel daily within the assigned territory.

Requirements

• Current Route Sales Representative exam score (or eligibility to take the exam).
• Ability to report to the Sacramento District Office as the primary work location.
• Daily travel within assigned territories (Sacramento, Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin counties).
• Willingness to work in outdoor weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a sales route or territory.
• History of business-to-business sales.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain customer relationships.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience merchandising products or promotional materials.
• Familiarity with sales data analysis.

Schedule

8-hour shifts as assigned, Monday through Friday.

Working Conditions
