The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento and one of the few state organizations that generates revenue without using taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations statewide, including independent shops, convenience stores, liquor stores, and supermarkets. Offerings include an average of 52 Scratchers® games and several draw games such as Powerball®, Mega Millions®, SuperLotto Plus®, Fantasy 5, and Hot Spot®.

About the Role
Under the general direction of the Route Sales Supervisor, the Route Sales Representative serves as a liaison to Lottery retail accounts. This position is assigned a state van and conducts daily field visits to a predetermined portion of assigned Lottery retailers to maintain direct contact and manage all functions related to the sale of Lottery products.
The work location is within Los Angeles County, but the reporting headquarters is the Santa Fe Springs District Office. This position is not eligible for telework; employees must report to the assigned office.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison between the California Lottery and assigned retail accounts.
- Conduct daily field visits to retailers to maintain direct contact and ensure compliance with Lottery sales functions.
- Manage all aspects of Lottery product sales, including inventory, promotions, and retailer support.
- Operate and maintain a state-issued van for travel to assigned territories within Los Angeles County.
Requirements
- Current Route Sales Representative exam eligibility (or ability to obtain it).
- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions that would prevent operation of a state vehicle. Applicants must provide their CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on their application.
- Clearance of a Background Investigation and Medical Clearance prior to hiring, as required by the California State Lottery Act. No person convicted of a felony or gambling-related offense may be hired.
- Ability to report to the Santa Fe Springs District Office daily; this position is not eligible for telework.
Qualifications
All experience and education related to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification must be clearly demonstrated on the State Application (STD Form 678). Candidates should also highlight their ability to meet the Desirable Qualifications identified in the job posting.
Pay
- Classification: Route Sales Representative
- Salary Range A: $3,521.00 - $4,406.00 per month
- Salary Range B: $4,092.00 - $5,124.00 per month
- New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, if applicable.
Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave hours each month.
