Route Relief Driver

About the Role

As a Route Sales Relief Driver, you will drive a truck over an established route (in the absence of the regular route driver) to deliver and sell products or render services of the dairy industry to customers’ places of business. You must follow all Department of Transportation regulations, keep the inside of the truck clean, perform routine maintenance on the truck, and work and drive in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Collect money from customers, make change, and record transactions on customer receipts.
• Write customer orders and instructions; record sales or delivery information on daily sales or delivery records.
• Call on prospective customers to solicit new business; prepare order forms and sales contracts.
• Inform regular customers of new products or services and listen to and resolve service complaints.
• Load and unload product at destinations.
• Place stock on shelves or racks and set up merchandise and sales promotion displays.
• Issue sales promotion materials to customers.
• Collect or pick up empty containers or rejected or unsold merchandise.

Requirements

• Must have a Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
• Minimum age: 21, as per Federal D.O.T. regulations.
• Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical and Drug Screen.
• Past route sales experience and a good driving record preferred.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to stand/walk constantly during your shift.
• Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50 to 75 lbs.
• Ability to constantly pull up to 270 lbs. with a pull rod while walking backward.
• Must be able to work outside and be exposed to varying weather/temperature conditions, including very hot (over 100 degrees) and very cold (below 20 degrees) environments for extended periods.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, and wet/humid conditions.
• Required to stand, walk, climb, bend, twist, push, pull, and reach above and below the shoulder.
• Repetitive hand/wrist movements, including simple and firm grasping.
• Maintain constant mental focus and awareness of surroundings.
