Route Driver
Brief Description
The Route Driver is responsible for transporting transformer units and materials to their assigned locations, ensuring timely delivery in a safe and efficient manner. Compliance with all safety requirements, transportation regulations and company policies are essential functions of this role.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks safely, following all traffic laws and adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Load and unload transformer units and materials, ensuring that items are properly secured during transit.
- Plan and follow the best routes, taking into account traffic and weather conditions to ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Manage an active list of customers and ensure customers are serviced according to the frequency of picks ups established by the commercial team.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections to maintain its safe operation, identifying and reporting any mechanical or electrical issues that require attention.
- Communicate effectively with team members, dispatchers and clients, updating on delivery statuses and possible delays.
- Adhere to safety protocols, such as wearing seat belts and personal protective equipment when required.
- Complete delivery logs and other necessary paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate courteously with other drivers, pedestrians, and road users.
- Interact professionally with clients and notate customer preferences, acting as a contact for the company.
Requirements
- HS diploma/GED required.
- 3 years working experience as a truck driver required.
- Valid Class A CDL required.
- OTR flatbed experience required.
- Able to operate both manual and automatic transmission vehicles required.
- ELD (Electronic Logging Device) experience preferred.
- Able to maintain HAZMAT endorsement.
- Clean and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
- Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail and can work in a team environment.
- Adhere to the company’s employee handbook policies and embody the organization’s core values.
- Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
- Able to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Driving for long durations.
- Bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting a minimum of 50lbs when unloading and securing cargo.
