Route Driver

About the role

A Route Driver is responsible for the operation of a semi-truck or vacuum truck to collect animal mortalities, fat and bone, or grease (vacuum truck) for removal from customer locations. The specific raw material handled depends on the plant location.

Responsibilities

• Collects and inspects raw material at time of pick‑up for any foreign or hazardous material at customer location
• Depending on plant location, may pump or load grease containers; ensure cleanliness of container and surrounding area; return container with screen and lock secured; note any damages to container or corral area; properly complete route ticket with customer signature
• Maintain an Electronic DOT log
• Provide customer with receipt of pick‑up and obtain signature of management at location
• Responsible for company vehicle; maintain vehicle in cleanest possible manner; operate vehicle in accordance with Company, federal, state and local regulations
• Conduct all safety checks and inspections of vehicle; operate vehicle under state, federal, local regulations and in accordance with company policy and procedures; observe all company safety rules
• Complete vehicle condition report on a daily basis; operate under all Company safety standards
• Maintain excellent customer relations by providing quality, professional service at all times
• Complete all company required paperwork in accordance with company policies (route tickets, driver vehicle inspection reports, accident reports, mileage reports, service forms, etc.) on a daily basis
• Follow established route as assigned
• Attend all safety meetings required; may be asked to serve on Safety Committee
• Maintain and update vehicle condition report on a daily basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Clean Motor Vehicle Record
• CDL A license holder with tanker endorsements
• Must be registered on https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/

Qualifications

• Prior route experience within a customer‑oriented environment preferred
• Works well with others in a team environment
• Dependable; reliable; ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed
• Knowledge of safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle and general maintenance
• Experience with truck hydraulics is a plus
• Strong computer and basic math skills
