Route Driver

About the role

Spee Dee Delivery is a family owned and operated company started in 1978 by Donald and Sylvia Weeres. Core business is standard, next-day, ground delivery. Headquarters and main sort facility in St. Cloud, MN. Over 1,800 employees company-wide, expanded throughout the Midwest. The Route Driver is responsible for representing the company while making deliveries and picking up freight.

Pay

Starting wage: $20.00–$24.00 per hour, based on experience. Overtime paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week, with 10–15 hours of overtime expected each week and voluntary overtime available on weekends as needed.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM until completion of route. Approximately 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week; voluntary overtime on weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and pick up freight in a timely manner from customers and shippers
• Inspect and report any mechanical problems with the vehicle
• Load the truck in an organized manner to effectively use space and prevent damage to packages
• Collect payments for certain packages delivered
• Verify the content of pickups on shipping papers
• Notify management of any problems or discrepancies
• Maintain professional personal appearance as well as cleanliness of vehicle
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills

• Ability to operate a manual transmission, or willingness to learn
• Possess good customer service and can work independently

Requirements

• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Hold a valid Driver's License with a good driving record meeting company standards
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
• Ability to bend, lift, twist, climb stairs while moving freight on and off the vehicle
• Ability to lift and move freight weighing up to 100 pounds
• Ability to work with all types of freight, including hazardous material, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals
