About the Role

VIAVI Engineers work with teammates to solve problems and build innovative software and hardware solutions that help our customers design, deploy and optimize all types of networks which enable their customers cell phone data and voice services for 5G, 4G and all types of wireless networks, enable cable systems and services, enable high speed data centers to operate, enable aircraft to fly safely, and enable your local government, police, fire departments, and military to operate radio communication. In addition, VIAVI Engineers build modern software systems to assure that all forms of information communication provide high level service to customers.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to platforms like Observer Apex Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics solution — a high-performance big data reporting platform that helps IT teams identify and resolve problems across enterprise networks, at a scale exceeding 100 billion records per day, with query results rendered in seconds
• Collaborate and communicate with Agile teams and leadership regarding designs, project progress, and issue resolution
• Operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented Agile culture with hands-on mentorship built in from day one
• Learn from experienced engineers while making meaningful contributions to features
• Demonstrate ability to continuously learn relevant new technologies, tools, methods, and processes
• Take ownership and pride in your work: writing code that is clean, correct, well-tested, and meets the team's definition of done
• Be part of a team that links abstract concepts to delivered solutions — solving problems and creating solutions that impact people all over the world

Qualifications

• Undergrad or Graduate Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline
• Foundational skills in C/C++, including algorithm design, data structures, and design patterns; exposure to Windows or Linux operating systems and networking protocols (TCP/IP, 802.11, Bluetooth)
• Some engineering-related experience outside the classroom environment, such as an internship/co-op, hackathon, research project, or related experience
• Self-starter with demonstrated skills in time management, critical thinking, and the drive to dig into and understand how code works
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Capability to quickly adapt to new projects and changing priorities when needed
• Enthusiasm for experimenting with cutting-edge Generative AI tools to drive innovation, streamline workflows, and stay ahead of the competition
