About the role

This is an up to four-year program for non-licensed engineers with limited engineering experience. You will learn engineering principles in various areas including design, materials, hydraulics, planning, right-of-way, structures, traffic, construction, etc. You will then learn how to apply advanced mathematics and engineering to transportation projects.

Position Information

  • Salary: Engineer II - $41.25, Engineer I - $36.83 (criteria below)
  • FT/PT Status: Full Time
  • Background Check: You must successfully pass a criminal history check.
  • Schedule Code: TL - Career Service Exempt (at-will)
  • Location: Region Three - Orem
  • Application Deadline: Open until filled

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in a variety of activities throughout the engineering project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, materials research, design and concept development, scoping, environmental assessments, safety planning, specifications, scheduling, and revisions.
  • Aid in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transportation facilities.
  • Maintain and evaluate contract and contractor performance to ensure compliance with specifications; recommend corrective actions for deficiencies.
  • Collect and review research materials, ensuring the accuracy, validity, and appropriateness of all data sources.
  • Create engineering and design documents using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Engineer I Level: A bachelor's degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline. Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
  • Engineer II Level: A bachelor's degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE). At least two years of post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Preference may be given to those with UDOT experience (internship), less than 2 years engineering experience, or recent graduation date.
