About the role

We are seeking a motivated Engineer to join our Process Control & Automation (PC&A) team. You will design, refine, and optimize mission-critical automation systems that power specialty materials production. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced process models, simulation, and commissioning, while collaborating across departments to drive innovation, efficiency, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital projects by defining requirements, commissioning plans, and testing model performance.
  • Manage and enhance model-based manufacturing systems: simulate new products, implement setups, monitor process health, and refine plant/product models using learning algorithms.
  • Develop and analyze feedback regulators for both model-based and PLC systems.
  • Lead and participate in problem-solving activities, applying data analytics to process events.
  • Ensure quality control throughout the process by monitoring model outputs, validating product specifications, and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with standards.
  • Maintain system documentation and provide long-term support tools.
  • Work within a team of model engineers to establish best practices and cross-train for coverage.
  • Share 24/7 on-call support responsibilities on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics (Electrical/Mechanical preferred); advanced degree desirable.
  • Strong background in control theory, feedback control, PID loops, or mathematical modeling of physical processes.
  • Experience with process automation, structured text programming (Python, Java, C++, C#, .NET), and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Familiarity with PLCs, MES, and integrated business systems.
  • Strong initiative, project management skills, and ability to deliver high-quality, well-documented solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Skills & Abilities

  • Provide technical leadership in automation systems.
  • Solve complex problems with attention to detail and reliability.
  • Organize and lead projects effectively, with strong judgment and planning capabilities.
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Develop improved methods and techniques, applying professional knowledge to enhance operations.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, well-documented solutions, and work effectively with minimal instruction.
