Rotating Veterinary Intern
About the role
VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Center is seeking rotating specialty internship positions for intern classes starting in June 2026, and opportunities for an off-cycle class of interns starting in March 2027. Located in Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington DC, we offer a wide variety of on-site referral specialty services and 24-hour emergency/critical care services.
Responsibilities
- Receive a broad clinical experience under the supervision of highly skilled specialists and seasoned practitioners with a focus on emergency medicine.
- Participate in on-site specialty rotations including cardiology, dermatology, emergency/critical care, internal medicine, oncology, radiology, and surgery.
- Engage in off-site nearby rotations such as general practice, neurology, ophthalmology, and shelter medicine.
- Take advantage of additional elective off-site rotations in dentistry, holistic medicine, behavioral medicine, and zoological medicine.
Requirements
Applicants must have completed their veterinary degree and be eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia. Prior experience in a clinical setting is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a passion for veterinary medicine are essential.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage time effectively are beneficial.
