Room Attendant/Housekeeper

About the Role

Join the team at Fairmont Breakers, Long Beach’s only luxury hotel, and contribute to restoring one of California’s most storied properties to its original grandeur. This role focuses on delivering professional, engaging, and friendly service while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Consistently offer professional, engaging, and friendly service to guests and visitors.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism in all aspects of job performance.
• Guide guests, answer questions, and create a welcoming atmosphere.
• Clean assigned guestrooms, including dusting, making beds, removing soiled linen, retrieving clean linen, vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, inside window cleaning, and replenishing supplies (e.g., room refrigerator, coffee maker, cups, glasses, silverware).
• Participate in deep cleaning projects.
• Sign in and out master keys daily.
• Maintain proper usage of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Update and record all cleaned rooms; communicate changes, discrepancies, late check-outs, and do-not-disturb signs to the office team.
• Maintain all brand, quality, luxury service, Forbes/LQA, and Fairmont standards.
• Conduct self-audits of standards and participate in feedback reviews.
• Approach all encounters with guests, colleagues, and members in a professional and personalized manner.
• Ensure a safe working environment and confidentiality of guest-sensitive information.
• Follow departmental policies, procedures, service standards, and all safety/sanitation policies (including PPE and chemical use).
• Comply with hotel security, fire, health, and safety regulations.
• Maintain housekeeping areas organized and well-presented.
• Report, turn in, or log lost and found items according to established procedures.
• Set up and organize workstations; restock supplies and equipment for the next shift.
• Report faulty equipment, linen shortages, maintenance needs, safety hazards, or other issues to supervisors.
• Monitor and control supplies and amenities to minimize waste.
• May assist with cleaning public areas.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Previous housekeeping experience in a luxury environment preferred.
• Knowledge of housekeeping practices and standards.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Positive attitude, professional image, and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Sense of initiative to surprise and delight guests.
• Highly responsible, reliable, and able to work with minimum supervision.
• Committed to delivering a high level of customer service.
• Self-confident, proactive, and able to prioritize and make effective decisions.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to remain calm and courteous while focusing on guest needs.
• Understanding and compliance with company/departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
• Skill in establishing effective working relationships with coworkers and guests.
• Able to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Ability to read reports and follow directions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
• Successfully complete position-specific training/certification.
• Versatile, flexible, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Ability to meet minimum skill levels for proficient job orientation to ensure a safe working environment per OSHA regulations.
