Responsibilities
- Effectively and safely perform a wide range of roofing/tinning tasks, including repair, renovation, and maintenance of campus buildings and structures.
- Work with a journey level mechanic to ensure tasks are performed according to apprenticeship on-the-job training requirements.
- Follow University safety regulations, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and perform tasks in a safe manner.
- Maintain proper care in the safe use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Supplement practical trade experience through vocational/technical trade school and hybrid on-line instruction.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers and management, both verbally and in writing.
- Utilize the departmental CMMS software to maintain an accurate log of daily tasks.
- Perform additional assignments, including overtime, after hours, and special events.
- Assist in emergency call-backs as necessary.
- Absorb and adhere to the department’s customer service standards.
- Assist in snowstorm-related tasks as an “Essential Employee.”
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Able to perform all essential duties in a satisfactory manner.
- A high school graduate or equivalent (GED).
- Ability to learn the roofing/tinning trade and understand occupational hazards and safety standards.
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn all aspects of the trade.
- Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Valid, permanent driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to learn computer basics and work with department software programs.
- Physical ability to meet the physical requirements listed, including standing, walking, sitting, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working at heights.
