Roll Change and Roll Shop Manager (Night Shift)

Franklin Industries is seeking a manager to lead our Roll Change and Roll Shop departments, which are critical to the success of our Mill operations. The Roll Change/Roll Shop Manager will foster a "safety first" environment while prioritizing checklist completion, work orders, and scale removal to minimize production delays. This role involves managing and coordinating department activities, training employees, enforcing safety protocols, and overseeing daily operations. The Roll Change Department operates overnight, and the selected candidate must be available for overnight hours.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Manage the Roll Change and Roll Shop teams.
  • Coordinate manpower with the Mill/Shears Manager and Mill/Shears Assistant Manager.
  • Complete all required actions on Roll Change to ensure the Mill is ready to operate by 5:30 a.m.
  • Review, update, and initiate CMMS work orders for the teams.
  • Ensure timely completion of all work orders assigned to Roll Change and Roll Shop.
  • Review completed work for adherence to quality standards.
  • Print work orders, dashboards, checklists, and training paperwork.
  • Complete the Scale Removal and Roll & Pass Change Tracker daily.
  • Conduct daily meetings with the Roll Change team.
  • Review daily production reports from the previous day.
  • Review and address open work orders with the Mill Maintenance Manager.
  • Report safety concerns to the Mill/Shears Manager, Mill/Shears Assistant Manager, and Safety Director.
  • Review and correct employee hours in the timecard system.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and provide leadership and motivation.
  • Review daily reports from Mill/Production Shears to assess impact on Roll Change and Roll Shop.
  • Complete annual employee reviews.
  • Prepare various reports regarding Roll Change and Roll Shop activities.
  • Meet monthly with the Executive Committee to review KPIs, Lean initiatives, projects, and proposals.
  • Seek approval for project proposals, including budgets for staff, materials, and associated costs.
  • Establish and maintain continuous improvement (2 Second Lean), problem-solving (KATA technique), and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain ISO 9001:2015 department standards.
  • Conduct daily Lean meetings with daily leaders.
  • Provide weekly safety training for all department employees.
  • Maintain a current job manual, including daily/weekly/monthly/yearly checklists.
  • Attend meetings and complete all assigned trainings.
  • Participate on interview panels.
  • Monitor and track staff attendance.
  • Implement disciplinary procedures as per policy.
  • Maintain supervisory files for all assigned employees.
  • Meet with current and potential vendors as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or higher education certificate (Bachelor's Degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project.
  • Good computer skills for data entry into inventory systems and CMMS.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • General knowledge of roll design.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Commitment to working safely.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • This is a safety-sensitive position involving heavy machinery.
  • Exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, gases, fluids, and chemicals.
  • Exposure to loud noises.
  • Ability to climb on, off, and around equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift items, occasionally exceeding 80 pounds.
  • Various repetitive motions.

Pay

$80,000 salary, plus the following incentives:

  • Bonus and production incentives.
