About the role
This role has overlapping reporting responsibility to the Plant Managers at P&K Stone’s Chico 1 and Chico 2 Quarries. The position oversees, guides, and directs the backshift production and maintenance efforts between both facilities for a combined 3.8 million tons per year (MTPY). Night shift is from 2 pm to 12 am (midnight).
Responsibilities
- Promote Safety: Prioritize safety for yourself and others to ensure zero accidents and full compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Organize and Plan Production: Schedule daily plant operations to optimize utilization of equipment, personnel, and inventory. Oversee site planning, pit development, stripping, mining, processing, stockpiling, loading, and shipping.
- Manage Employee Relations: Provide leadership, training, and supervision to plant employees. Work with HR on recruitment, merit increases, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations to develop talent.
- Monitor Processes and Materials: Analyze production and quality control to ensure a high-quality product. Monitor operational reports to maintain best practices in extraction, processing, and stockpiling within target specifications. Implement a preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime.
- Maintain Compliance: Build a strong safety culture to ensure compliance with safety, operational, and environmental regulations. Continuously improve health and safety performance.
- Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs: Organize daily inspections and maintenance of plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations, maximizing production and minimizing interruptions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience managing mid-to-large quarries in a high-paced production setting.
- Strong leadership and mentorship skills for both direct and indirect reports to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
- Operational knowledge of rock mining, MSHA regulations, and quality control systems and processes.
- Mechanical experience maintaining Crushers, Screens, Washers, and Conveyors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including motivation, team building, and effective communication with internal and external audiences.
- Experience leading financial performance to meet or exceed established targets.
- Ability to work in a quarry environment, outdoors in all weather conditions, and tolerate exposure to loud noise (85dba – 105dba).
- Strong track record in leading safety, health, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word).
- High school diploma or GED.
