Scholastic Reading Events are wondrous in-person experiences that empower kids to discover books for themselves. Taking place in schools and rooted in Scholastic’s greater mission to use the power of books for the betterment of all kids, Fairs bring entire communities together. At Scholastic Reading Events, we bring “the best school day of the year” in 110,000 unique pop-up shops annually. Irresistibly defying expectations of how one must act in a library, Fairs raise over 200 million dollars in funds and resources for schools that host Fairs. We are currently in search of a Branch Generalist to support our local team. This part-time seasonal position offers sick time, a generous 50% off discount on Scholastic merchandise, and a 401k with a company match. Qualified candidates will assist the Branch Leadership Team with administrative tasks and additional warehouse functions, supporting our mission to encourage reading and promote lifelong learning while demonstrating our values of caring and respect for all people.
Responsibilities
- Learn, demonstrate proficiency, and meet productivity/quality requirements for all duties.
- May demonstrate proficiency in all POS (EZ scan) tech functions.
- Coordinate and schedule volunteers for warehouse sales.
- Perform miscellaneous warehouse sale EZ scan functions.
- Monitor, maintain, and order office, breakroom, and restroom supplies.
- Assist with branch functions: labor data card entry, PO invoicing, Scholastic Dollar adjustments, new hire paperwork, production planning release, etc.
- Monitor and maintain costumes, cash drawers, marketing materials, and setup kits.
- Perform PC-related duties as needed.
- Handle products properly at all times.
- Use equipment and tools according to procedures.
- Follow safety policies and procedures.
- Complete daily Labor Data Collection cards accurately.
- Maintain attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Comply with drug and alcohol-free policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including tasks from other positions for development.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to read English documents (safety rules, instructions, manuals).
Physical Demands
- Lift boxes up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Lift boxes up to 30 lbs to a height of 70” occasionally.
- Push wheeled cases over 300 lbs with initial force up to 50 lbs and sustained force up to 30 lbs.
- Stand, reach, squat, bend, and kneel as needed.
- Work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
- Follow detailed assembly instructions accurately.
- Regularly use hands, fingers, and arms; talk and hear.
- Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally sit and climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
