About the role

The successful applicant will be involved in a range of surface and underground rock mechanics projects, including technical input to pit slope and underground mine designs and engineering support for operating mines. Duties will include (but are not limited to) the design and supervision of geomechanical site investigation programs, development of geomechanical models, slope stability analyses, slope monitoring, and technical report preparation. Duties will also include project management and coordinating the activities of other team members.

Requirements

  • An Ideal Candidate
  • Passion for developing meaningful geomechanical models to protect lives, property, and the environment
  • Geotechnical Engineer with academic specialization and/or experience in Rock Mechanics
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree (BS) in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering
  • Master's degree (MSc) in Rock Mechanics or Geotechnical Engineering is strongly preferred
  • 4-10 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering fundamentals, drafting, geotechnical testing, and general civil engineering design and construction practices
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own work
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing in English
  • Spanish language skills would be desirable
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Geostudio, and Rocscience software and familiarity with UDEC/FLAC and other geotechnical software preferred
  • Knowledge of Auto CAD Civil 3D would be an asset
  • Relevant work experience includes but is not limited to the following: Mining rock mechanics -- underground and open pit slope stability evaluations Geomechanical site investigations Rock mass classification and the selection of geomechanical domains Open pit slope monitoring using modern methods and technologies Numerical modeling Slope stabilization and hazard mitigation Slope stability assessments and analyses for pit slopes Practical work experience specifically related to mining or civil rock mechanics projects. This may include experience with open pit slopes or other rock slope stability evaluations.
  • Fluency in English, experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, and the ability to work effectively with clients are necessary requirements
  • Experience in the consulting industry, experience with numerical modeling, application of probability theory, and the ability to communicate in Spanish and/or Portuguese will be considered assets
