Robotics Test Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a Robotics Test Engineer to play a hands-on role in testing the core robotics software responsible for orchestrating inventory into the Symbotic system and order fulfillment out to customers. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a creative, collaborative, and agile development environment.
As part of a talented team of roboticists, you will work on the heart of Symbotic’s automation solution – Symbot, the mobile robot. You will be responsible for delivering solutions for the storage and retrieval of cases performed in a fully autonomous structure operating thousands of Symbots at customer sites.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and execution of software tests for mobile robot drive and pick-and-place capabilities.
- Develop simulation-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing for verification of robot behaviors.
- Own software integration testing of systems and subsystems.
- Develop scalable testing frameworks across multiple robot platforms.
- Implement and conduct tests via scripting, data log parsing, and analysis (e.g., grep, regex).
- Collaborate with software developers to create tests that verify the performance of new robot capabilities.
- Perform root cause analysis and system-level debugging of hardware/software components for the mobile robot platform.
- Troubleshoot system problems in production or design by investigating issues related to product performance or production difficulties.
Requirements
- Preferred Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science, or a Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to test complex systems; experience testing robotic systems is a bonus.
- Experience with general-purpose programming environments, languages, and scripting systems, data analysis packages, Linux, C++, and git.
- Experience with scripting tools such as Python and Bash; experience with testing automation designed in Python and PyTest is desirable.
- Hands-on problem solver who can clearly communicate results.
- Familiarity with robotics, mechatronics, or embedded systems.
- Knowledge of software quality and testing automation principles is desirable.
Work Environment
- Up to 10% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
- The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

Pay
The base range for this position in the posted location is $96,000.00 - $132,000.00. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO, and other benefits.
