Robotics Systems Engineer II, Tech Deployment
Join Amazon's Robotics (AR) Technology Deployment team to deploy industrial robotics across North America's fulfillment network. In AR TD, we raise the bar on the speed, quality, and cost of deploying industrial technologies at scale, functioning as the field team who plan, execute, and launch the technologies developed by internal design and product strategy partners.
About the role
As a Systems Engineer in AR TD, you will oversee large-scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazon’s growing Stores network. This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems, network configurations, and software coordination. You will work with cross-functional partners across Amazon Fulfillment Technology & Robotics engineering, safety, product strategy, software, supply chain, third-party installers, contracted deployment engineers, construction teams, and internal operations customer teams. This role serves as the lead on-site project manager, providing technical oversight for the installation of Amazon-designed automation equipment.
This is an individual contributor role requiring travel across North America, upwards of 75% or more. Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, Nashville, or Austin will be required.
Responsibilities
- Manage the tactical deployment of large-scale industrial automation technologies, ranging in complexity from early alpha/beta to mature Generally Available products.
- Own the tactical execution (onsite coordination of installation and acceptance testing) to achieve the target “go-live” date for each assigned project.
- Collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers (including site maintenance and operations teams) to convert technical requirements into refined deployment execution documents (schedules, Standard Operating Procedures, dependencies, etc.).
- Improve operational metrics and team processes through automation and optimization.
- Independently resolve difficult technical problems during deployment, considering operational burden and making trade-offs between time, quality, and resources.
- Create and improve standard work documents and operational guidebooks, working toward automating or improving team processes.
- Influence internal and partner teams to meet team-level goals.
- Develop subject matter expertise in one or more deployment domains.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in technical assessments.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives with measurable results.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration experience.
- 5+ years of Linux experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or relevant work experience.
- Experience in scripting languages such as Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols such as HTTP and DNS.
- Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes for maintainability, scalability, and security.
- Experience working in a 24/7 production environment.
- Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services.

The AR Technology Deployment team enables the delivery of large-scale automation technologies designed and manufactured by Amazon. The team is multi-disciplinary, consisting of Field Deployment Engineers, Controls Engineering, Design for Deployment, Product Single Threaded Leaders, and a Program Management Office. We collaborate to deliver new technologies and packaging solutions that improve safety, quality, and costs within Amazon’s fulfillment processes. The team is geographically located across four North American hubs and directly impacts high-priority goals set by Amazon’s senior leadership.

Pay
Base salary ranges by location:
- North Reading, MA: $104,500 – $160,000 USD annually
- Nashville, TN: $99,300 – $160,000 USD annually
- Austin, TX: $104,500 – $160,000 USD annually
- Bellevue/Seattle, WA: $104,500 – $160,000 USD annually
