Robotics Engineer

About the Role

This role focuses on designing, developing, and supervising all aspects of plant automation and robotics systems, equipment, and machinery, contributing to innovation in powertrain solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotic systems, equipment, and automated machinery.
• Program and configure robots using appropriate programming languages and control systems.
• Develop and test robotic software, algorithms, and applications.
• Integrate sensors, vision systems, and control technologies into robotic platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and operational issues.
• Conduct performance testing and analyze system efficiency and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations.
• Create technical documentation, specifications, and user manuals.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards (TS16949, ISO14001, MIOSHA, MPTSH).
• Support installation, commissioning, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and submit improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
• Interpret and design electrical schematics.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.).
• Report unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology certification, or 5+ years of equivalent experience and education.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the automotive manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs (Allen Bradley and Siemens).
• Knowledge of robotics (ABB and Fanuc) preferred.
• Experience with HMI programming including RS Logic Suite, FTView, and Siemens Programming Suite.
• Knowledge of various networks such as Ethernet/IP, DH+, RIO, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and RS232.
• Continuous improvement mindset with understanding of the “7 wastes” to write effective programs.
• Ability to multitask and adapt, finding creative solutions to problems.
• Working knowledge of OmniLinks and Wintress preferred.
• Ability to obtain Hilo, Crane, and/or Aerial lift certifications.

Work Environment

This role operates in both an office setting and the production floor. In the office, the noise level is usually low to moderate, with occasional low-level vibration exposure. On the production floor, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, with moderate to loud noise levels.
