In this role, you will work with a team dedicated to ensuring public services are provided promptly, efficiently, and safely. You will operate County equipment and vehicles to help construct and maintain roads and related structures. You will also install and maintain roadway traffic control for construction zones in accordance with the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and County procedures and quality standards. Work With Us | Maricopa County, AZ We Require One year of experience in traffic control, or traffic operations, including installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, or two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or construction of roadsHigh school diploma or GED Other Requirements Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hireMust possess or have the ability to obtain an American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagging certification within six months of hire We Also Value Experience working in the public sectorExperience in a maintenance environment, including mowing, tree trimming, and/or weed sprayingExperience in concrete repairs/replacement and welding Job Contributions Install and maintain traffic control signing and barricading during emergencies and floods. Prepare, clean, and maintain traffic control devices for lane/road closures, detours, bypasses, and shoulder work in County work zones, in accordance with Federal, State, and County traffic control plansInspect barricades, lights, signs, sandbags, and sign spacing daily to ensure proper traffic control set-ups. Provide flagging for work zones, including the use of STOP/SLOW paddles or handheld radiosCreate work orders and tasks, complete daily written reports, enter information into the asset management system (Cartegraph), and document pre-trip/post-trip inspections on all assigned equipmentParticipate in special projects, emergencies, Palo Verde drills/exercises, and flooded roadway response; be on call/standby 24 hours for emergency requests. Install and program message boards and speed monitors for special events throughout Maricopa County, as neededInstall and maintain traffic control signing and barricading during emergencies and floodsPerform manual labor assignments and load/unload materials, supplies, and equipment, and deliver to job sites as directedAssist in building, repairing, maintaining, clearing brush and debris, and landscaping of roadways and roadway structures such as pavement, culverts, headwalls, fences, and guardrailsOperate a variety of trucks, power equipment, and manual tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures, including sandbagger, forklift, skip loader, etc.Perform other duties as assigned; some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift Working Conditions Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantlyExerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or up to 20 - 50 pounds constantlyIncumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibrationIncumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travelThe work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations.
