Roadway Engineer (Technical Lead)

About the role

RDA Rinker Design Associates, LLC (RDA) is seeking a motivated Roadway Engineer (Technical Lead) to join its growing Transportation team. The position offers the chance to work on impactful transportation projects throughout Virginia while mentoring junior engineers and helping expand RDA’s regional presence.

Responsibilities

• Design transportation infrastructure: develop roadway designs, plan sets, and supporting documentation for VDOT and local agency projects.
• Prepare engineering calculations, estimates, and construction documents in accordance with industry standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, clients, and project stakeholders to deliver successful projects.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Support project delivery activities while growing into increased technical and project responsibilities.
• Help strengthen RDA’s mentoring capacity as the team continues to expand.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–6 years of transportation engineering, roadway engineering, or related experience.
• Virginia PE license or EIT with the ability to obtain PE licensure within one year.
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and project delivery processes preferred.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation required.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
• Interest in mentoring and developing junior staff.

Pay

The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
