Roadside Development Herbicide Applicator (JOB FAIR)

About the role

The incumbent operates herbicide spray equipment to accomplish efficient and practical application of herbicides for the Authority and operates mobile equipment for transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. This position requires maintaining a current State of Louisiana-issued Commercial Applicator License from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture. The incumbent reports to a foreman or higher-level supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Operates spray truck and/or other spray equipment, using protective clothing such as boots, gloves, eye protection, and/or respirators or dust masks when necessary.
• Maintains vegetation at highway roadsides, flood walls, abutments, fences, foreshore protection, loose rock transitions, power poles, signs, slope pavement, drainage structures, and drainage canals via application of appropriate herbicides or other chemical treatments.
• Operates grass-cutting equipment such as tractors, turf cats, and zero-turn cutters, and performs labor duties including cutting trees, picking up paper and trash, and using weed trimmers when conditions are unfavorable for herbicide application.
• Ensures proper herbicide is utilized for each vegetative maintenance area and procedure, in accordance with Louisiana Department of Agriculture and chemical label requirements.
• Applies herbicides in compliance with Louisiana Department of Agriculture and EPA policies and regulations.
• Assists in performing scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment, including fluid and filter changes, parts lubrication, etc.
• May assist mechanics with minor repairs to equipment, including disassembling and reassembling parts, lubrication, and fueling equipment.
• In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and hurricane/tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if required, remaining until released by the Appointing Authority.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.
• Current State of Louisiana-issued Commercial Applicator License from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture.

Appointment & Compensation

This appointment can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment. The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
