About the Role
The RN Wound Care provides quality patient and family centered care as a member of the health care team, applying standards for professional nursing practice and focusing clinical care to enhance the experience for patients, families, and others. This position oversees the work of other caregivers providing specific care to assigned patients throughout the shift under the scope of RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and demonstrates in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with organizational policies and state regulations.
- Provides wound and ostomy care for patients per direction of the certified wound and ostomy nurse, including assessment, implementation of interventions, collaboration with the care team, and support for organizational education activities promoting wound healing and preventing skin breakdown.
- Assesses patient conditions using critical thinking and clinical judgment; sets outcomes; implements nursing actions; collaborates with other disciplines; and evaluates patient progress.
- Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
- Demonstrates awareness of and supports departmental and organizational goals through participation in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities.
- Participates in activities that promote professional growth and development of self and others.
- Communicates effectively (written and orally) and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, and guests.
- Manages the patient experience by clarifying, integrating, and coordinating the roles of the interdisciplinary team.
- Performs standby call as assigned.
- Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement and acts as a champion of change.
- Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting corporate integrity efforts.
- Delivers customer service and patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Participates in creating a healing environment that supports the wholeness of individuals, patients, and caregivers.
- Provides therapeutic presence through active listening, effective communication, and appropriate interaction techniques.
- Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with organizational policies.
- For RN Certified Wound Care: Oversees wound and ostomy care for referred patients, including assessment, intervention, physician consultation, and team collaboration.
- For RN Certified Wound Ostomy: Provides wound and ostomy care, including stoma site markings, ostomy consultations, and organizational education activities.
Requirements
- Current valid Oregon RN license.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One (1) year of experience in an acute wound care setting.
Qualifications
- Required: Education as required by RN licensure.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Preferred: Board Certified Wound Care or Ostomy Care Certification through ABWM or WOCNCB.
