About the Role

Per Diem position on the IV Therapy team at MGH, a highly skilled group of nursing professionals who provide infusion therapy and vascular access services. The team collaborates to achieve safe, effective, and appropriate infusion therapy, serving as the primary response team for vascular access needs, including intraosseous insertions during rapid responses and codes. This role offers opportunities for growth, continuing education ("Teaching Tuesdays"), and practice at the top of the nursing license. Many team members hold leadership positions in IV/Infusion/Vascular Access Nursing associations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Administer medications and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Perform independent nursing interventions related to infusion therapy and vascular access using clinical reasoning, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Serve as the primary response team for vascular access needs, including intraosseous insertions during rapid responses and codes.
  • Provide education and build relationships throughout the hospital.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) state license required.
  • 0-1 year of clinical nursing experience required.
  • Minimum of two years placing IVs.
  • Ultrasound-guided IV experience preferred.
  • VABC or CRNI certification or eligibility preferred.

Skills

  • Familiarity with principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledge of care required for respective age groups.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.

Pay

$41.72 - $105.65/hourly.

Schedule

  • Per Diem (on-call/as-needed basis).
  • Rotating shifts.
  • Onsite at 80 Blossom Street.
