RN - Trauma Step Down Unit - Full Time, nights

Job Summary

A registered professional nurse employed on the Trauma Stepdown Unit (TSDU) of Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients with a variety of traumatic or surgical related conditions, including but not limited to fractures, head injuries, blunt and penetrating trauma, extended surgical recovery.

Education

• Required: Graduate from accredited School of Nursing
• Annual Erlanger Health System EOL and Elsevier courses.

Experience

• Required: Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills
• Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations
• Knowledge of current trends and new developments
• Knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.

Position Requirement(s)

• Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
• License/Certification/Registration Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee
• BLS and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification completed prior to going to unit/department and to be maintained going forward.

Department Position Summary

• The RN on the Trauma Stepdown Unit must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive direct and/or indirect care of patients with a variety of traumatic or surgical related conditions, including but not limited to fractures, head injuries, blunt and penetrating trauma, gunshot/stabbing, MVC or extended surgical recovery.
• The registered nurse must be able to assess and monitor patients pre- and post-procedure, as well as administer medications and assist with bedside procedures under the direction of EHS physicians.
• The RN must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and acuity of the patients served on the Trauma Stepdown Unit. Patients located on TSDU have a higher acuity level than a general Med Surg floor requiring a 4:1 ratio.
• The employee must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures manual.
