This full-time, night-shift position in the Medical/Surgical Unit-5EW requires a BSN and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, assess, plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate patient care and staff development using the nursing process and evidence-based information.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for incorporating the organization’s vision, values, mission, and critical goals into job performance.
• Assist the Clinical Director in managing unit staff and patient population, providing direct patient care as needed, and collaborating with physicians on medical plans of care.
• Oversee staff to ensure adequate patient care, including hiring, onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees.
• Establish or contribute to care plans, including administering medication, managing IV lines, delivering therapies, observing patients, and consulting with healthcare clinicians.
• Ensure compliance with policies and financial stewardship by maintaining the department budget.
• Serve as a resource for staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on managing illnesses or injuries, post-treatment care, nutrition, exercise, and self-administration of medication and therapy.
• Facilitate inter- and intra-departmental collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
• Participate in policy revisions, committees, and goal-setting for the unit.
• Contribute to staff recruitment and retention through role-modeling, fostering peer relationships, and participating in preceptor/mentor programs.
• Coordinate educational and professional activities related to department/unit needs.
• Conduct regular rounds with physicians, patients, or families to improve the patient experience and quality of care.
• Utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to evaluate and adjust patient care plans.
• Initiate and support quality improvement initiatives, using resources effectively.
• Direct staff in applying the nursing process and coordinate patient care to enhance independent functioning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

All RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must have knowledge of:

• Stroke symptoms and warning signs.
• Protocols and pathways for identifying, evaluating, and managing stroke patients.
• NIHSS Stroke Alert activation and protocol.
• Stroke quality indicators.
• Available stroke patient education materials and community resources.
• Educational requirements and Stroke Center website resources.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution.
• Legally licensed to work as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Arizona.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (BLS Healthcare Provider Training Course).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN); 3 years preferred.

Stroke-specific education requirements apply to staff with direct responsibility for stroke patient care.

Schedule

Full-time, night shift, 72 hours per pay period.
