Responsibilities
- Responsible for day-to-day oversight of nursing operations of the facility and ensures staffing is adequate to provide care.
- Oversees the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services in a positive, empathetic, and professional manner.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to ensure all residents’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental, and cultural needs are met.
- Works to resolve customer complaints when they arise.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as nursing practice standards.
- Models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency regarding patient safety.
- Enforces and interprets policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
- Ensures proper staffing for each unit, maintaining appropriate ratios and managing call-offs and vacation time.
- Ensures chart checks are completed, seclusion/restraint logs are updated, and nursing assessments and MARs are accurate and up-to-date.
- Completes rounds at the beginning of shifts and performs random audits.
- Assists nursing leaders in staff orientation and competency.
- Mentors and trains staff as needed.
- Affirms compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
- Maintains the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and safe care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes and outcomes.
- Coordinates care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensures consultations are ordered.
- Documents medical, behavioral health information, and nursing care.
- Administers medications and maintains records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Develops and updates a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives, and interventions.
- Prioritizes tasks and delegates staff to ensure quality patient care.
- Leadership during admissions and discharges, and informs physicians of changes in patient conditions.
- Adjusts staffing as necessary.
- Utilizes administrator-on-call for additional attention.
- Provides direct care as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
- Current registered nursing license in the state where the facility is located required.
- Greater than 1 year of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
- 1 year of experience as an RN in any setting required.
- 1 year of experience in psychiatric/recovery programs preferred.
- Some experience as a charge RN or other leadership position strongly preferred.
- Current certification or license to practice within the state where the facility is located.
- CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
