RN Staff - Pediatric ICU - PT - 1st Shift

About the role

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is an 11-bed unit at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children that cares for critically ill children from 0-18 years of age. The PICU is staffed by Registered Nurses (RNs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Pediatric Intensivists who work closely together with a supportive multidisciplinary care team to provide acute care.

Responsibilities

• Identify patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessment of children with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurologic dysfunction.
• Plan and deliver safe, age-appropriate care under critical situations, including titration of drips, multiple technical procedures, and use of a variety of equipment for acute care.
• Evaluate the patient's response to care and progress towards expected outcomes.
• Accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift and strive for clinical and service excellence.

Requirements

• Graduate of a state-approved school of nursing with current Alabama or multi-state licensure.
• Experience preferred; new graduates accepted.
• BLS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
• PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
