Responsibilities
- Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others
- Performs the priority technical procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely, effectively, efficiently, and legally
- Promotes and supports LCMC Health's performance improvement initiatives by implementing infection control practices, maintaining the environment of care consistent with Joint Commission requirements, and participating in quality improvement activities and review/audit processes
- Gives rationale for actions or decisions based on logic, successful experience, intuition, and/or established policies/procedures
- Communicates using appropriate channels information, data, significant events of problems to appropriate persons, including: current patient condition/status, changes in the patient’s condition/status, laboratory/diagnostic data, intake & output, nutrition needs/status, patient needs, assessment findings and changes, shifts report, unit problems, patient/family/physician team member complaints, defective equipment, supply usage
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care and education
- Delegates safely and appropriately to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities
- Uses age-appropriate principles of learning, and initiates, consults, and collaborates with available patient education resources and works closely with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and a social worker to meet the educational needs of the patient/family
- Treats all customers with dignity, respect, courtesy, and compassion, recognizing customer needs and beginning to solve problems as soon as they are apparent
- Contributes to the team by providing assistance to others without being asked
Requirements
1 year of professional nursing experience
Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana
American Heart Association, BLS-HCP
Qualifications
Maintains current knowledge in nursing practice
Participates in activities to maintain and expand nursing knowledge in area of practice
Skills
Complies with state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (e.g., patient safety, infection control, HIPAA, etc.)
Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care
Organizes, prioritizes, and coordinates all aspects of care for each assigned patient by coordinating and delegating activities related to patient care management in an appropriate manner and supervising activity of other unit personnel providing care to assigned patients
Verbal and written communications are clear, concise, and accurate; uses positive non-verbal communication effectively and documents in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner
