RN Staff - DeKalb Labor & Deliver Unit - FT - 3rd Shift
About the role
The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating the nursing care of patients, correlating the nursing process with the medical plan of care and policies. The nurse evaluates assigned patients, plans, implements, and documents nursing care, assists physicians during examinations and procedures, performs patient tests, and administers medications within the scope of practice. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, performing a variety of tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate nursing care for patients
- Correlate the nursing process with the medical plan of care and hospital policies
- Evaluate assigned patients and document nursing care
- Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
- Perform patient tests and administer medications within the scope of practice
- Establish patient care goals and teach patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care
- Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information to meet patient needs
Requirements
- Associate's degree in nursing
- Certified as a registered nurse
- Current license with the Alabama Board of Nursing
- Current BLS certification (ACLS required after 6 months)
- PALS certification may be required based on patient population
Qualifications
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing
- At least two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment preferred
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills for providing care appropriate to the age of patients served
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify requirements and provide appropriate care
