About the role

Provides direct patient care in an area designated as a specialty unit in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates learning needs of the patient and/or family and provides patient and family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including disposition, referral, and spiritual and/or psychosocial support needs.

Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Nursing (Required)
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (multiple accepted formats listed)
  • Registered Nurse Compact License or Registered Nurse License in the State of Florida
  • One (1) year of nursing experience required
  • Department-specific credentials:
    • ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Certificate required for RNs administering chemotherapy
    • APHON Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider card required within 12 months of hire for RNs administering chemotherapy for oncologic indication within the pediatric setting
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for ICU, ED, PACU, Endo, Tele, OB, MHN Pre-Op, and Specialty Procedural areas
    • PALS required for Pediatric areas (except NICU); 30 days to obtain if coming from a non-pediatric background
    • NRP certification required for NICU; 30 days to obtain if coming from a non-NICU background
    • Certification in Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate or Advanced) through National Credential Center or AWOHNN required for L&D RNs prior to completion of job orientation
    • RN Fellowship Program requires one (1) year of RN independent practice (not inclusive of nurse orientation) and ACLS/BLS certifications
    • Newly licensed RNs have six (6) months to obtain ACLS and/or PALS

Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
