Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the C.V. Laboratory is responsible for delivering nursing care to the Patient. This includes administering medications, observing for complications, and assisting the Physician during procedures.

  • Administers medications with 100% accuracy.
  • Observes for complications and intervenes when emergencies occur.
  • Scrubbs to assist the Cardiologist during procedures (except PTCA).
  • Runs the Code 300.
  • Supervises nursing care of the patient pre-procedure and post-procedure.
  • Provides nursing care post-catheterization/P.T.C.A. when hospital bed is not available.
  • Completes the log book accurately and completely.
  • Maintains stock supplies of medications, IV fluids, and tubing.
  • Performs duties in an organized and efficient work flow.
  • Participates in the mandatory call schedule.
  • Assists in delivering high quality health care services.

Essential Functions

  • Utilizes the new CERNER platform accurately.
  • Checks email for corporate and department communications.
  • Displays knowledge and complies with National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Implements an age-appropriate plan of care.
  • Attends all UofL Health required educational programs.
  • Documents knowledge of drug therapy accurately.
  • Checks patency of IV site(s) to prevent complications.
  • Completes nursing chart forms with accurate and pertinent information.
  • Checks narcotics according to policy.
  • Supervises nursing care of the patient.
  • Anticipates patient’s needs and observes closely for complications.
  • Exercises good judgment in decision-making.
  • Supervises care post-procedure.
  • Communicates with families during or after procedure.
  • Provides emotional support to patients.
  • Transports patients to hospital bed and gives report.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Cardiac Catheterization procedures and equipment.
  • Scrubs to assist the Cardiologist during procedures.
  • Operates the injector and imaging equipment accurately.
  • Maintains professional demeanor during procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Kentucky.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Minimum of two years of Cardiovascular Laboratory experience or two years of critical care experience.
