RN Sepsis Coordinator

Qualifications
- (RN) Registered Nurse
- Associate Degree
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
What you will do in this role
- Review lactate reports
- Screen the ER tracker and all nursing units to identify possible septic patients and consult with the nurse to ensure proper treatment
- Round daily in ED and respond to all possible Code Sepsis alerts, providing assistance to nurses and physicians as needed with implementing (and/or educating about) bundle elements
- Screen for patients who had sepsis but no alert was activated or unable to attend alert (after hours) to ensure all bundle elements were implemented
- Maintain SPOT data (inpatient sepsis alert system)
- Submit sepsis coding review questions to HIM service center as needed
- Print charge nurse shift report to keep track throughout the week as a cross reference to ensure all septic patients are captured
- Follow up with staff and physicians when bundle elements were not implemented or were not implemented timely to determine root cause and provide education as needed
- Perform and document findings of chart review on sepsis mortalities
- Prepare agenda for and lead multidisciplinary sepsis committee meetings
- Prepare compliance reports from individual chart review
- Perform chart review with ED physician, intensivists, hospitalist and staff physicians
- Review division reports and data in Crimson
- Attend division sepsis calls
