About the role

The Senior Behavioral Health (SBH) unit is an 10-bed facility. The SBH Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to adult geriatric patients diagnosed with conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, other dementias, and other altered thought processes.

Responsibilities

  • Completes psychiatric nursing assessments on each assigned patient upon admission to the unit.
  • Identifies and documents patient needs based on subjective and objective data.
  • Initiates and documents a nursing care plan, including nursing diagnoses from the psychiatric assessment.
  • Documents long and short-term goals on the nursing care plan.
  • Implements appropriate, measurable, and achievable interventions on the nursing care plan.
  • Communicates patient concerns and behavioral changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains teaching needs of patients, families, and significant others.
  • Maintains clinical competence in providing care to all patients.
  • Aids in a smooth intershift transition.
  • Demonstrates responsible decision-making and professional judgment regarding patient care issues.
  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in the provision of care and practices within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas and the policies, procedures, and standards of the Health System.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork through effective collaboration efforts.

Requirements

  • Current, active license to practice in Arkansas.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Greater than 6 months experience as a Registered Nurse required.
  • If less than one year experience as a Registered Nurse, must obtain a BSN degree within 4 years of hire.

Skills

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to assess and document patient needs.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in the nursing process.
  • Ability to maintain clinical competence.

Schedule

This position is part-time, with specific hours to be determined.
