This dual-circulator and scrub competency model empowers nurses to practice at the top of their license while building highly marketable surgical expertise.

About the Operating Rooms at Hershey

Our progressive and innovative surgical team fosters an environment that is challenging, dynamic, and state-of-the-art. The Operating Room platform includes 34 operating rooms and four procedure rooms, supporting more than 20,000 surgical cases annually. As part of an academic medical center and Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, nurses are exposed to a wide breadth of surgical complexity and patient populations. Service lines include:

Responsibilities

The Staff Nurse, RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a designated group of surgical patients. Responsibilities include:

• Establishing care priorities and developing perioperative nursing plans
• Providing patient and family education
• Supporting discharge planning
• Documenting care and patient progress
• Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes

Through both circulating and scrub experiences, nurses play an integral role in procedural efficiency, sterile technique, and intraoperative patient advocacy.

Requirements

• Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact
• AHA BLS certification prior to the end of the orientation period

Please note – Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1st, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate in nursing degree program within one year of their hire date and complete the degree within 4 years of their hire date. (This does not apply if your hire date was prior to June 30th, 2015).

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Operating Room experience or enrollment in (or successful completion of) the Hershey Medical Center Perioperative Course Program
• At least 1 year of Operating Room experience
