Responsibilities
- Moves beyond basic nursing care to provide routine and complex care.
- Demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation and makes appropriate assignments and delegations.
- Addresses psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administers medications and treatments according to protocols, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
- Evaluates patient learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- Experience: 1 year in the related nursing specialty preferred.
- Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS required, RN License in state of employment or compact.
- Education/Skills: Completion of New Nurses Orientation, precepting by a designated staff member, and successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Services-specific competency validation.
- Credential Grace Periods: Required certifications must be obtained within specific time frames based on experience level.
Qualifications
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
- STABLE certification required from one of the following courses: Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor.
- NRP certification required.
Skills
- Ability to manage contingencies and long-range goals in clinical situations.
- Effective communication and delegation skills.
- Knowledge of relevant nursing protocols and standards of practice.
